Eliza S. van Heerden is an Associate responsible for evaluating investment opportunities and portfolio optimization for Star Mountain Capital.
Prior to joining Star Mountain, Ms. van Heerden worked at New York University School of Medicine, researching immune regulators of diseases (specifically cancers) of the pancreas and liver. Following six years of volunteering as an outdoor EMT for Sunday River’s Ski Patrol in Maine, Ms. van Heerden worked as a medical intern and researcher at Helderberg Hospital in South Africa. While in Africa, Ms. van Heerden co-developed and led studies aimed to improve the assessment of children’s health and welfare. In addition to research and medicine, Ms. van Heerden has taught undergraduate biology and physics.
Ms. van Heerden has been actively involved in various philanthropic activities from volunteering in government hospitals in Africa to working with Friends of Acadia in Maine.
Ms. van Heerden holds a Master’s of Science in Mathematics from the Courant Institute at New York University and earned her Bachelor of Science from Bates College.
